Having a couple of 10ks under my belt, I am very excited to push my limits further and train for the RBC Run for the Kids 15k Race on September 20th.
Four months until race day… the perfect amount of time to not only train for 15k distance, but also to hopefully run it in good time… good for me, that is!
I love running to maintain my fitness. At my best, I could run a 10k in 55 minutes and I was doing weekly speed training with a local running group.. those workouts were the best! Despite my efforts to maintain a good running base over the past few months, this fall, winter and spring have not been good for training! As a current Dietetic Intern who is learning and whose routine changes every few weeks with each new rotation, keeping up with running has been difficult. Oh, and don’t forget the polar vortexes.. I don’t mind running in minus 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, but minus 20… forget it!
Currently, I am able to run between 5-7 km, so my running base hasn’t suffered that much over the past few months. Over the next three weeks, my plan is to work on being comfortable with running between 8-9 km. Then for the rest of training, I will start doing long runs, tempo runs and weekly speed work. I will update my blog as I go and I am looking forward to the journey!!!
